BBC Headquarters, Cardiff
Three Central Square is the site for the new headquarters of BBC Cymru Wales, a Foster & Partners designed building over 5 storeys totalling 180,000 sq ft. As a sub-contractor to ISG Plc, we were appointed a package of works totalling over 50 separate elements with a value of circa £340k over a 52-week period providing steelwork design, detailing, fabrication and installation of various aspects of secondary steelwork and ancillary items. These included basic and complex riser support steelwork, large column and header door frames, internal and external CAT ladders and access stairs as well as gates, Stainless and galvanised steel handrails, Security line steels, corridor wall and basement column and parking protection. The new BBC Cymru Wales headquarters is the most advanced regional hub in the broadcaster’s portfolio and the very first BBC facility in the UK to use live IP Technology. The striking building is the centre piece for the wider redevelopment of the Cardiff gateway and is the anchor for the whole Central Square development. We provided steelwork for some of the most challenging aspects of the internal fit-out, needing our distinct approach to problem solving and logistic constraints contributing to our client achieving the all-important on-time completion within budget.
